1. SITUATION
a. Enemy Forces:

(1) INTEL SUMMARY: CIA and MACV/SOG Intel Assets on the ground have reported VC combat ready troops with a force strength of at least two Battalion strong. The units are believed to be detached from the 271st Regiment, 9th Division; and have been observed to be moving South toward Saigon with Anti-Air and Sapper Support Elements from the NVA 377th AA Division and 27th Sapper Division. At least two Local Force (LF) units totaling eight men each have been reported to be moving in from the west of Lai Khe toward Saigon as recon elements ahead of the Main Force (MF) unit.

b. Friendly Forces:

(1) 2nd BAT, 28th Regiment, 1st ID | CALL SIGN: “Black Lion”

LOCATION OF INCURSION: near Lai Khe, northwest of Saigon.

OPERATION CODENAME: Shenandoah II

BATTLEFIELD ANALYSIS: BLUFOR Force of nearly 150 Infantry Troopers Paradropped into the area on 16OCT67 and have encountered heavy resistance from the North.

c. Support Attachments/Detachments per Activation Record:

(1) 1st BAT, ALPHA COMPANY, 137th ACB | CALL SIGN: “Sky Soldier”

(2) 1st BAT, ALPHA COMPANY, 11th ABN | CALL SIGN: “Angel”

LOCATION OF SUPPORT REQUEST: near Lai Khe, northwest of Saigon.

North of current combat line.

SUPPORT OPERATION CODENAME: Blue Ridge Blockade

BATTLEFIELD ANALYSIS: Heavy resistance has been encountered by “Black Lion”, BROKEN ARROW has been radioed from the OPERATION SHENANDOAH II Command Element, mission is at critical state and support has been requested to allow for MEDIVAC of injured troopers and resupply. MACV/SOG has issued a call for INTEL SITREPS for all service branches in and around the area to further clarify the OPFOR movements and numbers.

2. MISSION
The Support Mission is to suppress and eliminate the threat north of the current combat line as well as knockout the recon element moving in from the west. “Angel”, “Sky Soldier” and any other unit answering the Support Activation Order are to rally at Bien Hoa Airbase for battlefield briefing and specific mission orders.

BROKEN ARROW has been radioed from the OPERATION SHENANDOAH II Command Element, mission is at critical state and support has been requested to allow for MEDIVAC of injured troopers and resupply.

INTEL images and HUMINT will be provided during the OPSBRIEF.

Civilians: Civilian activity in and around Lai Khe is light, however be aware that the VC are deeply rooted in the area - so VC sympathizers are likely!
